About the practice
An independent quantity surveying practice based in New Karu, Nasarawa State, on the Abuja corridor, working across Nigeria for owners, developers and diaspora clients who need construction measured, costed and verified.
An independent practice, not a contractor with a calculator
Peterch QS is an independent quantity surveying practice based at #5 Peterch Street, New Karu, on the Abuja–Nasarawa corridor, working across Nigeria. The practice does two things: it measures and documents construction work in advance, through bills of quantities, material schedules and cost estimates; and it verifies construction work as it happens, through site attendance, valuation and independent reporting.
The independence is the point. We do not sell building materials, we do not employ building contractors, and we do not hold client funds. Nothing in the advice is influenced by a sale we would like to make next.
Why the practice looks the way it does
Nigeria builds an enormous amount of private housing with almost no independent measurement. A contractor quotes a lump sum, work begins, and cost control becomes a conversation rather than a calculation. When the owner is abroad, the gap between what is claimed and what is done is wider still, because nobody is standing on the site with a tape and a schedule.
That gap is where this practice works. Measurable quantities on the one hand, measured attendance on the other, and a written document either way. It is not sophisticated. It is simply the ordinary discipline of the profession, applied consistently and in plain language.
What we are, and what we are not
We are quantity surveyors. We are not architects, structural engineers, lawyers or estate agents, and we do not present ourselves as any of them. Where a job needs a structural assessment, a legal opinion, or a market valuation of property, we will say so plainly and, where helpful, say what kind of professional to approach.
How we work
Plain language
A report that the owner cannot understand has failed. Jargon is used where it is the correct term, and explained where it is not.
Written scope, written fee
No work starts before you know what is being done and what it costs. Travel is always a separate, visible line.
No conflict of interest
No materials sold, no contracts executed, no funds held, no commission taken from anyone we recommend.
The awkward answer
If the measurement says the work is worth less than the claim, that is the report. If the design cannot be built for the budget, that is the report.
Records that last
Deliverables are issued as an editable working file plus a dated PDF, so they remain useful in a dispute years later.
Documented, not remembered
Site visits produce a written record the same week, not a recollection when a problem surfaces.
Coverage
Field-based services are available in all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, by appointment, with travel quoted openly and visits grouped by region where practical.
Document-based services, including bills of quantities, material schedules, cost estimates and claim reviews, are prepared remotely and delivered digitally, so they are available to clients anywhere in the world.
We work with property owners, developers, diaspora investors, estate managers, contractors, solicitors and lenders.
The legal entity, stated openly
A question clients are right to ask, answered before they ask it.
Quantity surveying is carried out by Peterch QS, the quantity surveying practice of Peterch Construction Ltd, a company registered in Nigeria. That is the entity that contracts with you, issues invoices and carries professional responsibility for the work.
Why make the distinction? Because the words in a company name matter to a client deciding whether advice is independent. A firm called “Construction Ltd” that offers to verify a contractor's valuation invites an obvious question, and the answer should be on the page rather than extracted from it.
The answer is a boundary, and it is a boundary we hold:
- We do not tender for the work we verifyThe practice does not bid against contractors for building contracts on projects it is engaged to measure or certify.
- We do not sell materialsNo cement, no blocks, no steel. There is no incentive to inflate a quantity or specify a particular brand.
- We do not hold client fundsMoney stays with you. We measure and recommend; you pay.
- We do not take commission from anyone we recommendNo referral fees from contractors, suppliers or professionals.
- We will not act for both sidesIf a contractor on your project approaches us, we tell you and decline.
If a project calls for both construction and independent verification, they are separated in writing before anything starts: the roles, the entities and the fees are stated, and the verification is not performed by the party doing the building.
Where you need documentation for a tender, a bank, a court or a lender, it is issued on Peterch Construction Ltd letterhead with the practice named, so that the contracting entity and the professional opinion are both unambiguous.
